General Finance Sites
Ohio State's
Finance Department's Web-Site. It is an incredible site for
research and other classes.
PV Viswanath
at Pace Univ. has put together a great site.
Web
Sites for Discerning Finance Students by John Wachowicz (yes the
author!) Excellent links page and test questions!
Investorhome.com is a simply
fantastic site, has everything from class notes to biographies of
famous people in finance.
Wall Street Reseach Network --a tad
too "trade" oriented but much data and some good news feeds.
The Fed's FOMC
calendar with the minutes of their past meetings . Pretty
interesting.
The Hedge
Fund Lounge--cool site! Hedge funds are huge and often
overlooked in class, be sure you are up to speed for both investing and
to be ready for job interviews!
Company Research.
Edgar is
a database maintained by the SEC. Several firms have made this
database more "user friendly." My favorite is Edgar-Online.com , there is
also Freeedgar.com (which is
not free, but...)
While you have to pay for it, bizminer
is pretty good for industry comparions etc.
(for free you can get pretty much the same from yahoo .
Historical data
GlobalFind Data
has stock prices going WAY back, in some cases centuries back!
US Treasury's
site has current and historical rates on T -Bill and T-bond.
Yahoo maintains the
easiest site for historical stock prices
Investorhome.com
has many sources of historical data
Historical
returns for various types of investments (from TRowe
Price)
Financial Calulators
Financial
Calculators to calculate loan amounts and just about anything else.
Glossaries
Investopedia --VERY cool
site! Includes Buzz Words
AMEX's glossary
Yahoo's finance glossary
Ratios
Illinois State has
put together a good page on
business ratios .
Creditworthy.com focus is on
credit and what you can do to protect it, make the most of what you
have. Also has a detailed explanation of the Altman Z-Score .
Finance and the Law
SEC Might as
well go to the source!
The
Securities Lawyer's Deskbook
Great, but dry.
Tanned Feet
(Great name) has much on the legal side of business as well as what the SEC
requires .
Taxes
LowTax.net and Tax-News.com are
Excellent! Much news, updated daily. Very good for
international as well.
About.com
has a good list of sites on taxes
Online Magazines
FinanceProfessor.com
weekly newsletter/ezine
CFO.Com --my favorite Finance online
magazine! Great stories. Focus is practical and on
Corporate Finance
From
Worth an archive of Peter Lynch's
articles (Very slow but understandable to all levels.)
SmartMoney is a very good
site. HAs a bit too much on stock-picking but their personal
finance, investing 101, and SmartUniversity are good. Too
short of archive.
Other Finance Links
Yale's William N. Goetzmann has some really cool
finance "
pictures and graphs ." To quote the author: "An entertaining
way to explore!
Smart
Money's Living Yield Curve is simply great. Can be used
in class or in real world. You will love it.
Real
Options and Beyond from Professor Lueburger of Stanford. VERY
good!
The Bond Market
is often overlooked. It should not be!
Resources for Economists
---WOW! from teaching to data, GREAT SITE!!! check it out!
Weblogs of interest
- SynergyFest
-techincally Synergy partners. Interesting look at finance,
accounting,
and a lot more.
- Institutional
Economics
--As the name suggest it is mainly about Economics, but much of it is
useful
for finance and in particular international Finance
- KnowledgeProblem
_a great place to see economics in actio, particular focus of
late
has been on energy, but topics seem to vary. Warning--like @
FinanceProfessor,
be careful or you may inadvertantly learn something!
-
Brad Delong's weblog
. He is an econ professor at Berkley, writes for Fortune, is a
journal
editor, and has an awesome site. He must be BUSY! That
said,
he is quite a bit left of where I am on many things, but that is OK, we
can
disagree on things :)
